An addiction is a substance (like alcohol) or a behaviour (like gambling) that you cannot control despite the harm caused by it. Addictions can negatively impact physical and mental health, relationships with family and friends, as well as personal finances and career. Without help and support from services or people around them, many struggle with their addiction and can’t stop taking, using, or doing the behaviour or substance they are addicted to. Some of the common addictions include alcohol, drugs, and gambling. Addiction support is available but not many may be aware. These conversations highlight the need to raise awareness of gambling related harm and alcohol overuse and the support available for those struggling with these addictions.
